Headshots

Why Me?

There are hundreds of headshot photographers out there, so why choose me?

I have performing experience - I understand the importance of being happy with your brand, after all you are selling yourself to casting directors and agents. You need to be 100% happy with the images that you are putting out there.

Flexibility - I am 100% flexible. Be that on price, time in the studio and the amount of images you receive. I try my upmost to always remain flexible, as I know everyone is different.

My Approach

Whether you're professional, working actor, student or mega star the brief is simple - tell your story. I aim to take what makes you 'you' and channel it through your photographs.

Creating the perfect head shot isn't always easy. I know exactly how much could be riding on those few chosen images, which is why we don't stop shooting until you are completely satisfied with what we have captured.

I love the natural look across all of my work, which is why I try to, where possible, to use natural lighting and simple plain backdrops to frame my images.

Alongside this, I also have my studio which is set up to meet my optimum 'naturalistic' tendencies.

What to expect

I'm all about managing expectations because in my mind, there's nothing worse than the unknown

A few days before the shoot

Think about your hair. Gents - do you need a hair trim? Ladies - do your highlights need to be re-done? It might seem obvious but remember these images are what are using to promote yourself to potential employers.

The night before

The night before your shoot I suggest having a quiet night in, watch some Netflix, drink plenty of water and have an early night. We want you looking your absolute best so try to avoid any wild nights out if you can.

Gents, it's also very easy to forget to shave.

If you're planning on auditioning with a beard then bring the bush to the shoot otherwise get rid of it. There's nothing worse than looking back thinking 'I wish I'd trimmed it'

We can also make time during the session for you to shave.

On the day of the shoot

Please plan your journey if we are shooting a location. I always aim to be ready at least 15 minutes early, so if we can start earlier then that's fab.

I always take time to chat before picking up the camera as there's nothing like having a camera thrust in you face.

We'll shoot for a while, take a break to review what we've got so far.

Then we'll shoot some more...

If we are in the studio we can review all the images on the laptop at the end of the shoot and decide on our 'picks' then together -  I always like to offer my input on the images.

On location, we can review on the laptop and then highlight the best of the bunch in a contact sheet I send over to you to review later.

What do I bring?

A frequently asked question that I like to address straight off the bat...

Clothing Choice

Think plain

The shoot is all about your face and selling that, not your beautiful Prada jumper, Avoid labels and distracting patterns that could draw focus away from your eyes.

Think necklines

Bring items with different shapes and style necklines. The type of neckline you choose for the 'look' can drastically change how the shot is perceived.

Think options

We can always say no on the day. Avoid too much of the same.

Think colours

If you know a colour compliments your eyes or hair, bring it along. As a standard, I like to say bring something white, dark and one brighter colour top. If we have multiples then that's great and we can go through the wardrobe on the day. Avoid anything TOO bright.

'Sample' gents kit list:

Plain light ironed shirt (Blue or White)

Plain crew Neck T-shirt

Plain V Neck T- shirt

Roll Neck

Jacket (Leather or Denim)

Beard trimmer

'Sample' Ladies Kit List:

Light Blouse covering shoulders

Vest top

Round Neck

V Neck

Light Jumper

Jacket  (Leather or Denim)

Dance Wear

Make Up

Believe me I know its tempting to apply lots of make up ahead of what is essentially a close up - BUT DON'T! The camera, lenses and lighting I use are all chosen to help show you at you best. You do not need to cake on the foundation. If in doubt, ask before the shoot, or better still, apply some here with me and I can tell you how far to go.

I'm more than happy to discuss any clothing options with you at the time of booking!

After the shoot

In the studio, we will take time to download and look at the images during the session. This is a good way to boost confidence as you can see what we are getting ahead of time and see what is working or not working from our positioning. We will take time to talk through the images and decide on the ones we will work with.

On location, you will receive a contact sheet of images from the session. Normally, I would go through and remove and 'duplicate' images from the shoot and leave you with the best of the best to decide which images you would like me to retouch.

I then take a few days to edit (normally quicker) and get the final images sent over to you via email with a link to an online album for downloading the full resolution images.

You will receive:

High resolution images in colour and black and white for print.

Low resolution in colour and black and white for web/email.

Editing and Re-touching

When it comes to the editing and retouching, I keep it all to an absolute minimum. I like my photographs to look natural whilst getting the most out of the camera as possible. That being said, sometimes there are things that I need to remove in post production.

The rule that I follow for re-touching is this:

"If it's not going to be there in a week, I will re-touch it"

Casting directors and agents want to see you for you!
